Diablo III is an action RPG computer game developed by Blizzard Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms. The game also contains elements of the Action / RPG genres and dungeon crawl.
The game is part of the Diablo series of games and a direct sequel to Diablo II. The game, as in the previous parts of the series, takes place in a dark fantasy world called Sanctuary (English Sanctuary - sanctuary, refuge). Events unfold around the struggle of the army of Heaven with the army of the Underworld for the world of Sanctuary. The characters of the players are not direct followers of these factions, but they gravitate towards the forces of Heaven, as the armies of the Underworld seek to enslave and destroy Sanctuary - their home world.
The game was announced at the Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational in Paris on June 28, 2008, and beta testing was completed on May 1, 2012.
It has been available for purchase on battle.net since March 15, 2012. On May 15, 2012, the English version was released, and on June 7, 2012 - the Russian version of the game. The international client, which was released on May 15, did not include the Russian language: it became available only on June 7. Diablo III sold over 3.5 million copies in its first 24 hours of sales, setting a new record for the speed of sales for PC games, selling a total of 6.3 million copies in its first week.
On February 20, 2013, at a conference dedicated to the announcement of the Sony PlayStation 4, a partnership between Blizzard and Sony was announced. The immediate plans of the two companies are to release Diablo 3 on the PlayStation 3 consoles (the release took place on September 3, 2013, at the same time the game was released on the Xbox 360) and PlayStation 4. The version of Diablo 3 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was released on August 19, 2014 and is called Ultimate Evil Edition. This version also comes with the addon Reaper of Souls. The Ultimate Evil Edition is also available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Save transfer between 7th and 8th generation consoles is supported. The PlayStation 4 version features an exclusive set of armor from Shadow of the Colossus and a dungeon based on The Last of Us.
